👀 Elon Musk’s xAI announces Grok — a ChatGPT rival built with X data 👀
Laughter is the best medicine. But could it also be the antidote to ChatGPT?
Elon Musk seems to think so, as he and his company xAI announced a ChatGPT rival with a sense of humor over the weekend.
But dry sarcasm and quick wit aren’t the only things that set Grok apart. Here’s what we know so far:
Grok is trained on X (formerly Twitter) data, which is one of the biggest text datasets in the world.
The chatbot will have real-time access to X tweets, which could give users access to real-time data and news, which could then be used in prompts. Musk thinks this will give Grok a massive advantage over other chatbots that are trained on older data.
Grok also has a sense of humor, and unlike other chatbots, will also answer “spicy“ questions.
Other features like image and voice generation are expected to be added in the future.
A limited number of people are currently getting access to Grok through a publicly available waitlist on the xAI website. Once training is finished, all X users will get access to Grok through X’s new Premium Plus subscription.
With the release of Grok, Meta’s numerous AI chatbots, and the expected arrival of Google’s new Gemini model, OpenAI’s lead looks set to face a significant challenge in the coming months.
