A Breakthrough in Secure and Convenient Digital Access?
🇪🇺 (8 Nov) The European Commission welcomes the final agreement on the European Digital Identity Wallet regulation.
👛 This marks a crucial step in implementing the EU Digital Identity framework for secure digital identity across Europe.
👛The EU citizens will have access to public and private online services through the EU Digital Identity Wallet.
👛Very Large Online Platforms designated under the Digital Services Act (including services such as Amazon, Booking.com or Facebook) and specified private services must accept the EU Digital Identity Wallet, creating new business opportunities.
👛The wallet extends beyond identity, offering features like opening bank accounts and securely storing digital documents.
👛Legislative discussions enhance user rights, including a transaction dashboard, data protection reporting, and wallet-to-wallet interaction.
👛Formal approval is pending, and Member States must provide EU Digital Identity Wallets within 24 months post-adoption.
👛Aligned with the 2030 Digital Decade targets, the initiative builds on the existing #eIDAS Regulation for cross-border electronic identification.
👛Large-scale pilots, co-funded by the Commission, are testing the EU Digital Identity Wallet in various everyday use-cases to refine technical specifications.
