Social engineering hacks are the number 1 way to lose your money in crypto, especially when the scammers now have AI at their fingertips.
Always remember:
🔹 Coinbase support will NEVER contact you first!
🔹 Always log directly into coinbase, from your saved favorites list. NEVER use the one sent in an email.
🔹 NEVER store crypto on any exchange for long periods.
🔹 Enable whitelisting of your key wallet addresses.
🔹 Use 2fa with a security key or an authenticator app.
If you ever get an email or call, you delete and, block or hang up the phone. Go Directly to your Coinbase account(Not through the email link) and see if there's any messages in there under notifications. If there isn't your good. 99.9% of the time, it's a scam.
Important Security Reminder: In the event that you receive a call from your bank or any financial institution regarding suspicious activity, it is crucial to exercise caution and verify the legitimacy of the call.
To ensure your security and prevent potential fraud, follow these steps:
1. Politely inform the caller that you will hang up and call the institution directly to verify the authenticity of the call.
2. Immediately hang up the phone.
3. Dial the bank's or institution's official customer service number, which can be found on their website, statement, or previous correspondence.
4. Ask to speak with a representative and provide them with your account information to verify the legitimacy of the call.
5. Confirm whether the institution actually contacted you and what the purpose of the call was.
By taking these precautions, you can protect yourself from potential scams and ensure that any suspicious activity is properly addressed. Remember, it's always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to your financial security.
The below is a post I found on Reddit, from a crypto holder on Coinbase , be SAFE, question everything!
Scammed ughh
I got an email from customer support and a call saying my account has suspicious activity. I logged into the app and it showed that someone was trying to log in and transfer money.
The person on the phone (who I know now is a scammer) had name, email, phone number, ya know personal information. It seemed legit. Anyways they told me to transfer my funds to my coinbase wallet. So I regretfully did. I checked my wallet an hour later and all the funds were gone.
HOW DID THEY DO THIS? I didn’t give them any information.
The call seemed normal. What got me was- the phone call from customer support saying I had suspicious activity and then me logging in and seeing a Mohammed trying to log in.
Ughhhhh.
Moral of the story. Customer service will never call you.
I’m still dumbfounded how they had access to my wallet without me giving any info? They obviously had some info because they were able to call/email me.
