🚨 XRP Ledger’s Ethereum-Compatible Sidechain Set to Launch in Q2
The XRP Ledger is preparing to launch its highly anticipated Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible sidechain in the second quarter of 2025, as confirmed at the Apex 2025 conference in Singapore.
🔹 EVM Compatibility: This new sidechain will allow the XRP Ledger to support Ethereum-based smart contracts and decentralized applications (dApps), dramatically expanding its developer ecosystem and use cases. The sidechain is being developed by Ripple and Peersyst using the evmOS software stack and is currently live on testnet, with mainnet launch expected after further testing and validator onboarding.
🔹 Bridging XRP and Ethereum: The EVM sidechain will connect to the XRPL mainnet via a bridge, with Axelar serving as the exclusive bridge for asset transfers. Wrapped XRP will be used as the native gas token, enabling seamless smart contract execution within the XRP ecosystem.
🔹 Developer and Ecosystem Growth: The testnet has already seen rapid adoption, with dozens of new entities building infrastructure, apps, and demand-generation tools for the sidechain. The mainnet launch is expected to be one of the largest developer onboardings in XRP Ledger’s history.
🔹 Enhanced Capabilities: While XRPL already supports native smart contracts, this sidechain brings full EVM compatibility, allowing developers to port existing Ethereum dApps and create new DeFi, NFT, and tokenization projects on the XRP Ledger.
🔹 Stablecoin Expansion: Alongside the sidechain launch, XRPL has expanded its stablecoin offerings, including the introduction of MiCA-compliant euro and dollar-pegged tokens to strengthen its position in regional and global digital asset markets.
💡 Why It Matters:
🔹 Interoperability: EVM compatibility bridges the gap between XRP Ledger and Ethereum, opening the door for cross-chain applications and greater liquidity.
🔹 Developer Attraction: The sidechain is poised to attract a wave of new developers and projects from the broader Ethereum ecosystem.
🔹 Ecosystem Expansion: This move positions the XRP Ledger as a more versatile, programmable, and competitive blockchain for the next generation of decentralized finance and digital assets.
The launch of the EVM-compatible sidechain marks a major milestone for the XRP Ledger, setting the stage for a new era of interoperability, innovation, and growth in the blockchain space.
