🚨Swift Chief Innovation Officer Steps Down🚨
I've spent the last six years as Chief Innovation Officer at Swift working across 11,500+ financial institutions on problems that sit at the center of global finance. The work is in good hands. Today I'm stepping down.
I'm not retiring. I saw something.
From inside the network that settles the world's cross-border transactions, I watched two forces converge. AI systems are getting more capable every quarter but unable to connect to data they could trust. Tokenized assets gaining traction but unable to connect to governance that institutions require.
Different industries. Different conversations. Same missing layer.
AI has not been slowed by model capability. It's been slowed by the hard problem of connecting models to real humans and trusted data. Tokenization didn't stall because of technology. It stalled because assets couldn't connect to trusted governance.
Neither system could integrate trust.
And these worlds are converging. AI agents will increasingly operate inside financial systems, making decisions and executing transactions at machine speed. When they do, the trust gap is not a problem in two industries. It's the single point of failure for both.
This is not an engineering problem. It's a scientific one. The same principles that make research reproducible, verifiable and traceable are the principles that finance and AI both need to operate at institutional scale. The missing infrastructure is not faster pipes. It's provable trust.
I'm leaving to join a team of scientists and entrepreneurs building at the intersection of Frontier AI, scientific discovery and institutional finance. Researchers from Oxford, Harvard and Cambridge. Engineers from SpaceX, Google and Uber.
More to come. But the reason I left the best job I've ever had is simple: this is what comes next and I had to join the team building it.
