Consuming The SAD (Standard American Diet) then developing disease and or Cancer ⚕️
Physiology, Ignorance & Karma
From a conventional medical perspective, it's primarily physiology.
The body responds to inputs. A diet high in ultra-processed foods, excess sugar, refined oils, smoking, alcohol, chronic stress, poor sleep, and inactivity increases the risk of diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and some cancers. That is cause and effect operating through biology.
From a karmic perspective, different traditions interpret it differently:
In many Eastern traditions, karma is not punishment. It is simply the unfolding of causes and consequences.
Choosing certain habits repeatedly creates tendencies and outcomes. In that sense, the disease could be viewed as a karmic result of accumulated choices.
However, most mature karmic systems caution against assuming that every illness is "deserved" or the direct result of conscious choices. Genetics, environment, childhood influences, toxins, accidents, and collective factors also play roles.
From a Gnostic perspective, the answer becomes even more nuanced.
Many Gnostics would say that disease is primarily a condition of the material world, the realm of limitation, entropy, and imperfection.
The body is subject to natural laws regardless of spiritual advancement. In that view:
Eating poorly and becoming ill is largely a matter of physiology.
Ignorance (lack of awareness) is often seen as the root issue rather than moral failure.
The lesson is not "you are being punished," but rather an opportunity to gain knowledge (gnosis) about how reality works.
A Gnostic might say:
If I place my hand in a fire, the burn is not karma in the sense of cosmic judgment. It is simply the nature of fire. Learning the nature of fire is gnosis.
Likewise, if a population is taught that highly processed foods are normal and healthy, and many become sick, a Gnostic might view that as collective ignorance rather than individual punishment.
From that perspective of someone thriving on the Edenic Diet, disease resulting from the SAD would be less about cosmic retribution and more about moving away from the design principles of the body.
The suffering then becomes feedback a signal inviting greater awareness.
So I would summarize it this way:
Medical view: physiology and biochemistry.
Karmic view: cause and effect through accumulated choices and conditions.
Gnostic view: primarily ignorance versus awareness; the body faithfully reflects the laws under which it operates.
Those perspectives are not necessarily contradictory. They may simply be describing the same phenomenon from different levels of understanding.
